Oakmere’s 51 Lancaster homes given go-ahead
The city council approved outline plans for the residential redevelopment of a six-acre site on the edge of Nether Kellet village despite local opposition.
Oakmere Homes secured approval for its 51-home scheme despite the plans amassing 123 objections.
A petition opposing the project was signed by just shy of 200 people, equating the more than a quarter of Nether Kellet’s population.
The site is not allocated for redevelopment under Lancaster’s local plan and was previously considered unsuitable for housing due to its proximity to Dunald Mill Quarry; an issue the applicant seems to have overcome.

JWPC advised Oakmere on the proposals.
As the plans were submitted in outline, no detail on the size, type, or tenure of the homes is available at this stage. Those matters will be dealt with in a subsequent reserved matters application.
Oakmere has not always had an easy ride in Lancaster and would have breathed a sigh of relief having secured approval for its Nether Kellet plans. Earlier this year the developer lost its bid to overturn the rejection of a 129-home project in Morecambe.
