NWDA/ERDF award £9.8m for road into Barrow business park

Funding for the access road into the Waterfront Business Park in Barrow-in-Furness has been granted by the North West Development Agency and European Regional Development Fund.

The funding, split £4.9m from each source, includes the first ERDF grant for Cumbria since the latest round of European funding began in April this year.

Planning permission for the road was given by Cumbria County Council at the end of October.

The business park is part of the wider £200m Waterfront Barrow-in-Furness development which includes a new marina, 650 homes, a hotel, leisure facilities, restaurants and bars, watersports centre, a cruise ship terminal providing a sea gateway to the Lake District; and a wetland nature reserve.
