Northstone consults on Lancaster resi

Peel L&P’s housing subsidiary is seeking public feedback ahead of a reserved matters application for 90 homes west of the A6.

The plans, which also include public open space, are for land south of Rays Drive in Scotforth, south Lancaster.

Northstone said that its vision would transform the site into a sustainable extension to the community, creating 90 homes and apartments in a range of styles and sizes to meet the needs of local people, with 30% being affordable homes.

In addition, 50% of the site would be transformed into public open space and new biodiverse habitats with the planting of more than 300 trees, new pedestrian and cycle routes and natural play areas.

Bernadette Barry, development manager for Northstone, said: “We want to set a high standard for new, sustainable homes in Lancaster to help meet local housing needs and would like to hear from residents on how best to do this.

“As part of these proposals, we’re excited to open up 50% of the site for new public space, footpaths, play areas and trees to allow new and existing residents to enjoy the site alongside nature.”

In December, Northstone started onsite with its fourth scheme, a 268-home development at the former Pemberton Colliery in Wigan, while last summer saw consent for a development in Ellesmere Port and a victory at appeal, allowing the construction of 276 homes at Horwich Golf Club.

The Lancaster site already has outline consent and is allocated for development in the city council’s Lancaster South Broad Location for Growth document.

Consultation is now open with a virtual exhibition, and will last until 28 February.
