North Wales Polish village revamp moves forward
Housing provider ClwydAlyn has said that work to demolish the Penrhos Polish Village in Pwllheli and deliver 107 replacement homes will begin “imminently” following the appointment of a contractor for the scheme.
Williams Homes (Bala) will deliver the project for ClwydAlyn, which has been planning the scheme since 2021.
The plan is for the existing homes on the Llyn Peninsula site to be knocked down. The first phase of construction will see 44 homes delivered thanks to grant support from the Welsh Government.
Previously an RAF base, the site was transformed into a residential village in the 1940s by the Polish Housing Society to accommodate Polish servicemen and women who stayed in the UK after the second world war.
The Polish Housing Society transferred all current properties on the site to ClwydAlyn as part of a merger arrangement in 2020, paving the way for its redevelopment.
Craig Sparrow, exec director of development at ClwydAlyn, said: “We’re delighted to see work proceeding at Penrhos Polish Village. This much-needed development will be of immense benefit to local people and families who need affordable and secure homes, which can adapt to their requirements.
“The increased cost of living means that access to good quality, energy-efficient homes is crucial. Improving the quality of housing and reducing the stress associated with affordability is an investment in our resident’s health – both now and for the future.”
Lovelock Mitchell Architects and Cadnant Planning advised the housing association.
A good plan , however will the Caravan Park be affected by the development?
