Zara adds to sparkle at new-look Golden Square

Spanish fashion retailer Zara and three Arcadia brands have signed at Lend Lease's Golden Square shopping centre in Warrington.

Zara agreed a 10-year lease for an 18,500 sq ft unit, one of the largest at Golden Square. Arcadia took 11,000 sq ft on a 15-year lease for Evans, Burton and Dorothy Perkins, joining the group's Topshop and Topman stores. The rents paid were not disclosed.

Lend Lease said customer numbers have increased by more than 90% at the centre since a 365,000 sq ft extension was opened earlier this summer. The developer claims 1m shoppers pass through the doors each month.

Russell Loveland, head of leasing at Lend Lease Retail, said: "Our objective was to attract and establish quality high street brands to Warrington – it's been a great success.

The £120m extension almost doubled the size of the existing centre to 675,000 sq ft creating a total of 140 shops. The extension opened 80% let in May. The latest deals take the occupancy level to 93%.

Lend Lease recently appointed Churston Heard as joint letting agent with Tushingham Moore, replacing Lunson Mitchenall.
