Yearsley to create 150 jobs in Heywood

The Yearsley Group, a cold store operator, has been granted planning consent for a £20m expansion at Hareshill Distribution Park in Heywood, Rochdale.

The group's development will include a 174,377 sq ft cold store and distribution centre. Yearsley said it will create up to 150 new jobs in addition to Yearsley's 300 existing employees, plus another 100 construction jobs through a 10-month build programme.

Yearsley is aiming for a BREEAM rating of 'very good' for the project's green credentials. The development will sit on a 13.5-acre site on Hill Top Road next to the group's existing facilities.

There will be 118 car parking spaces, cycle and motorcycle parking, separate HGV parking, loading and servicing areas and all in an extensive landscaped setting.

Harry Yearsley, managing director of Yearsley Group, said: "We are pleased to have secured detailed planning permission for the construction of a new cold store adjacent to our existing Heywood headquarters. When the site was given outline planning consent for employment use in March 2010, we identified its potential for supporting the future growth and expansion of our business.

"This approval will enable Yearsley Group to progress plans for the expansion of the Heywood depot in line with customer needs, and secures its position as our UK headquarters."

Nick Fillingham, associate at Indigo Planning, which advised Yearsley on the application, added: "The Yearsley Group is already playing a pivotal role in Heywood, employing 300 people, and its expansion into this new space will be a further boost to the local economy as well as its growing UK business."
