Wythenshawe Town FC eyes expansion

The North West Counties Football League club has put forward plans to build a match-day function suite and community centre at its ground in Baguley.

The club is based next to Baguley’s Tesco superstore and is proposing to build a 3,000 sq ft suite to be used on match days for hospitality and club meetings, while on non-match days the club will offer the space to the local community for functions, seminars, and other events.

This will include a function suite for 150 covers, with a split allowing two events of 100 and 50 covers to be hosted concurrently; along with a bar, kitchen, cellar, and office.

Named The Townhouse, this is to be built on the club’s existing car park; this will necessitate relocating parking facilities to land south of the clubhouse, next to its training pitches.

Designed by 10architect, the building is primarily brick with aluminium cladding. The architect said: “The club is looking to develop a building that provides a strong presence when approaching the site, and one that provides the community with facilities that can be used all year round”.

Working with consultant WYG, a planning application for the facilities has now been submitted to Manchester City Council. The planner added: “The football club has ambitions to improve the physical facilities at the football ground, in line with the playing aspirations for the future success of the football team, which include a current target to gain a further league promotion.”

The semi-professional club currently plies its trade in the North West Counties League, having won promotion from the Cheshire Premier Division in 2016.
