Wyre grants NPL consent in Thornton

NPL Estates has won planning approval from Wyre Council to transform land next to the former power station in Thornton, Lancashire into a retail development.

The site off Fleetwood Road was allocated for a new local centre in the recently adopted Fleetwood-Thornton Area Action Plan. NPL's 15.9-acre development will contain a food store, retail units and a new community centre along with public realm space and associated car parking.

Full planning permission was also granted for a new road into the site and ecology and landscape works associated with the diversion of the existing watercourse that runs through the site.

Jon Suckley, associate at HOW Planning, advisor to NPL, said: "The Thornton-Fleetwood area is the subject of significant change with NPL already having secured over 1,000 new jobs in the last five years and approval of this application will help NPL, Wyre Borough Council and other stakeholders continue the progressive regeneration of the area. It will inject much needed value, services and employment opportunities into the existing communities in line with the recently adopted Area Action Plan."
