Wyre care home in line for consent

Update: This project was refused by Wyre Council on 7 July.

A 160-bedroom facility in Stalmine to be built by developer VOS is due to be approved by the local authority next week.

The development would be located on seven acres off Strickland Lane, north-east of Blackpool.

The project comprises two care home buildings with 80 bedrooms each. VOS is also requesting outline consent for up to 50 homes on the site.

VOS’s care home project is to feature a salon, cinema, games rooms and bistro, under plans designed by NJSR Architects.

Stalmine Parish Council submitted numerous objections to the project. The list included claims that the site is inappropriate for a care home as it is too far from GP surgeries and that the proposals are “overbearing”.

However, Wyre Council has recommended that the scheme be approved at its planning committee meeting next week.

Recommendations do not always equal approval at Wyre. Yes, this is allocated land but the proposal is wholly inappropriate for its proposed setting, and the very dangerous A588 (Stricklands Lane) road which it would abut.

This was unanimously turned down. More discord at Wyre between planning officers and the committee.
