WYG wins national award for Piccadilly Plaza revamp

WYG Engineering in Manchester has received an award from the Institution of Structural Engineers for the refurbishment and remodeling of City Tower and Piccadilly Plaza.

The scheme, completed by developer Bruntwood, transformed the building back to 225,000 sq ft of Grade A office with ground floor retail and leisure space. External works tied the building to the wider cityscape and created a three-storey, glazed pedestrian mall connecting Piccadilly Gardens to York Street.

Anthony Fuller, director of WYG Engineering, said: "It was important to improve the aesthetics of the building at the same time as providing a high quality amenity for users. This project has been a real boost for Manchester city centre."

The award was presented at the Institution of Structural Engineers annual dinner on 25 September 2009.
