WSP hires smart energy specialist

Professional services and engineering consultancy WSP has appointed Professor David Healey as director of smart energy, and has given him a remit to build a new team within its power networks department.

Healey will be based in Manchester. He was formerly lead partner for Analysys Mason’s smart energy & cities practice.

He will continue his work with Keele University developing a Smart Energy Network Demonstrator project, as well as his advisory role on the United Nation’s sustainable energy and energy efficiency policy which is developing strategies to support international agreements on climate change.

Healey said: “WSP is focused upon playing a leading role in the energy sector revolution which will form the basis of a future low carbon global economy. I believe as part of the WSP team, we can assist our clients to effectively embrace this transition in our urgent battle against the impacts of climate change.”

His appointment is part of the company’s wider Future Ready strategy; a training programme in the UK consultancy sector which aims to equip engineers with the tools to design more futureproof, sustainable solutions for clients.
