Work starts on United Utilities refurb

Contractor Building Projects UK has begun renovating a United Utilities treatment works office in Oldham, as part of a £1.5m three-year programme with the water company.

Hadfield-based Building Projects is undertaking a complete refurbishment of the waste water treatment works, including asbestos removal, re-roofing, preparation for a laboratory facility, in addition to the specialist fitting of pipes and taps which prevent contamination in the water.

Adam Bell, managing director of Building Projects, said: "We're used to dealing with challenging environments and where utilities are concerned there are often significant considerations to address before activity commences.

"At Oldham, the staff are remaining in the building while we carry out the work, which means the planning and health and safety aspects of the job have been absolutely paramount."

Work on the Oldham site is expected to take eight weeks.
