Work starts on Poundland’s £30m Wigan warehouse

Developer Stoford and contractor McLaren Construction have started on site at a 335,000 sq ft distribution unit for Poundland at M6EPIC.

The Standard Life Investments Long Lease Fund is investing £30m to forward fund the development, after purchasing the 20-acre site from Legal & General Property and DB Symmetry earlier this year.

Practical completion of the Webb Gray-designed building is expected in June 2016.

Detailed planning consent was granted by Wigan Council within seven weeks of submission. Poundland, advised by Cushman & Wakefield, has taken a 20-year lease at a rent of £4.65/sq ft on the Webb Gray-designed scheme.

Dan Gallagher, joint managing director of Stoford, said: “It’s fantastic to see work start on the new Poundland warehouse and distribution unit near Wigan. It’s a project we are very excited to be involved in and it marks a major investment in the region by Poundland which will generate around 800 much-needed jobs for the area.”
