Work starts at Liverpool’s £30m waterfront car park
Contractor Willmott Dixon has begun site works for the new permanent car park at Kings Dock, which will replace the facility destroyed in a fire on New Year’s Eve 2017.
The nine-level car park will have capacity for 1,454 cars. Ground clearing works have started at the project, which is due for completion by summer 2020.
A temporary four-floor car park, with capacity for 550 vehicles, opened in December to support events at the city’s waterfront event campus for the next 18 months, whilst the new car park is built at nearby Monarch’s Quay.
The new £30m car park, covering approximately 500,000 sq ft, will follow the same internal circulation layout as the council’s recently opened Victoria Street car park, also built by Willmott Dixon. The design includes 15 electric charging points and a full sprinkler system.
The demolition of the previous Liverpool Waterfront car park is almost complete. It will then be levelled and made safe before the site is incorporated into the Kings Dock masterplan.
