Woodford SPD out for consultation

A statutory six-week consultation period will begin on Monday into Stockport Council's draft Supplementary Planning Document for Woodford Aerodrome.

The council said the SPD provides guidance for the future of the site and will ensure the delivery of 'a development that is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.'

BAE Systems sold the redundant site to Avro Heritage, a company controlled by JCB heir Joe Bamford. Avro formed a joint venture with house builder Redrow to build 950 homes on the brownfield parts of the large site.

The draft SPD will be available to view on the Council's website at www.stockport.gov.uk/woodfordspd, at the Council's main reception at Fred Perry House between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Thursday and between 8.30am and 4.30pm on Fridays and at all libraries and local information centres in Stockport during their regular opening hours.

During the statutory consultation period, residents are also invited to attend two special public events, to discuss the SPD with council officers. The public open days will be held at The Woodford Centre, Chester Road, Stockport, SK7 1PS on:

• Friday 7 September, 3pm – 8pm
• Saturday 29 September, 10am – 3pm

Cllr Iain Roberts, executive member for economic development and regeneration at Stockport Council, said: "The Supplementary Planning Document is very important in guiding the future development of Woodford Aerodrome Opportunity Site and I'd like to encourage people to let us know their comments."

The draft SPD will also be presented and discussed at the Bramhall and Cheadle Hulme Area Committee meeting on Thursday 11 October.

Following the statutory consultation period, Stockport Council will consider all feedback and prepare the final SPD for approval by the council's executive.
