Wirral auction reaches £1.2m

Auction house Smith & Sons secured sales of over £1.2m at its latest auction, with more than 60% of properties sold on the day.

Despite a quieter room than usual at the Village Hotel in Brombrough, a number of lots attracted competitive bidding. There were 32 lots available comprising houses in need of refurbishment and renovation, residential and commercial investment and two parcels of development land.

Several properties achieved prices above the guide price including a three bedroom semi-detached house in Wallasey and a substantial house close to Wallasey Golf Club which was bought for owner occupation. Workshop and stores in Birkenhead, originally built as a bakery, were bought for use as a pottery and studio.

Land in Neston town centre with planning permission for six apartments was sold prior to the auction and a block of lock-up garages on Shrewsbury Road in Birkenhead sold for £48,000.

Deals were secured in other areas of the borough with a two bedroom apartment in the heart of Hamilton Square reaching a figure of £45,500 and a substantial double fronted property in Prenton sold for £96,500.

Auctioneer Chris Johnson said: "Despite the lower numbers than usual, we were still pleased with the final results with interest being shown in a variety of lots throughout the catalogue.

"Whilst some properties didn't make their reserve on the day, we are still dealing with several enquiries which we believe will lead to final sales. Auctions continue to appeal to a diverse range of potential buyers including developers, builders, first time buyers and investors."

Smith & Sons' next auction will be held on 11 July with a closing date for entries of 8 June.
