Wilton tackles vacant Spring Gardens office

Four years after acquiring Spring House at 42-44 Fountain Street, Manchester, Wilton Developments has started work on a £2.7m refurbishment of the 26,000 sq ft office block.

Leeds-based Wilton has appointed interior contractor Ardmac to fully refurbish the seven-storey building to provide a groundfloor restaurant unit beneath six floors of offices.

Wilton acquired the building in the middle of 2011 from Peninsula & Century Properties. The building was occupied buy Axa Insurance. The insurer has since vacated.

Jason Stowe, managing director of Wilton Developments, said: “It’s exciting to be starting work on our Manchester city centre project. This refurbishment will be of a quality equal to our award winning developments in Leeds, where we secured a prestigious British Council for Offices Award for 10 South Parade. The desire is to produce a ‘best in class’ building in the same way as we have done in Leeds.

“By delivering business space to the high standard that this prominent location commands, at a time when the occupier market is in such good shape, I’m confident we will secure strong tenant interest before the development completes in the summer.”

Pudney Shuttleworth will market the ground floor restaurant space. OBI Property provided detailed design advice for the new reception and common areas and is the retained office letting agent.
