Plans to create a 190,000 sq ft business park off Pendleton Way in Wilmslow have been recommended for approval by Cheshire East Council’s planning officers.
The outline plans, designed by AEW Architects and lodged by landowner A & HD Wain last October, feature a central spine road accessed via the A34, and a series of office blocks reaching a maximum height of four storeys.
There are to be four development plots and a multistorey car park with nearly 600 spaces proposed under the plans for the Wilmslow Business Park site, which is bound to the north by the West Coast Mainline rail.
Further details including the design of the units will be set out in future, detailed planning applications, and depend on tenant demand.
The 10-acre site is allocated for employment or business use under Cheshire East’s Local Plan. The application covers the southern part of the site, with a future development plot comprising an additional four acres set aside to the north.
Phil Hepworth, director of AEW, said: “It’s an interesting time for workspace design as we have all realised, in a short space of time, the benefits of digital collaboration through Zoom and Microsoft Teams and the how that provides efficiency and the flexibility to manage our time.
“But we have also come to appreciate the need for the physical workspace and the benefits that brings in terms of physical interaction with others, health and wellbeing and mentoring the next generation. The future of the workspace is unknown but the need for it is certainly still there.”
He added that the design for Wilmslow Business Park would provide “exemplar facilities and open space. The masterplan flexibly allows potential occupiers to create a home tailored to their business needs and be part of a wider business community.”
Avison Young is the planning consultant for the scheme and Mellor Speakman is the applicant’s agent.
The professional team also includes Randall Thorp, Vectos, Tyler Grange, and TDP Development.
