Wigan seeks repairs contractors

Wigan Council is to spend £3m a year for the next three years repairing external areas of thousands of houses and flats in its estate.

The council, on behalf of manager Wigan & Leigh Housing, is seeking to appoint two contractors to carry out planned maintenance to 22,400 council-owned units.

The works will include painting, roofing, replacing fencing, gates, external doors and windows, masonry work and other repairs.

The budget will be between £3m and £3.5m and each contractor will work on approximately 2,000 properties annually. Each of the contracts will be for a period of three years with an option to extend for a further period of up to two years.

The contracts will be let through The Chest procurement system. The deadline for expressions of interest is 8 January 2014.
