Whittaker spends £8m on CSC shares

Peel Group chairman John Whittaker has made several share purchases in Capital Shopping Centres Group during August, taking his interest to over 20%.

Whittaker started the month with 19.75% of CSC and has since acquired more than 2.6m shares at an average share price of £3.37. The shares were acquired by several of his company vehicles including Peel. He now controls 20.05% of CSC's issued share capital. He also has 4.49% held in bonds which could be converted into shares at a later date.

CSC acquired the Trafford Centre in January 2011 in a share and debt deal valuing Peel's mall at £1.65bn. Whittaker subsequently became non-executive deputy chairman of CSC.

Whittaker is now the largest single shareholder in CSC.
