West submits Ramada redevelopment plans

West Properties has submitted a planning application to Manchester City Council for its major mixed-use project at the Ramada complex on the corner of Deansgate and Blackfriars Street.

The Ian Simpson Architects-designed scheme will, if approved, transform the area with new public streets and squares, 248 apartments, a 250-bedroom luxury hotel incorporating Manchester's largest ballroom, 280,000 sq ft of offices and 60,000 sq ft of retail.

Colin Roy, of West Properties, comments: "The delivery of a landmark hotel and riverside destination scheme with cutting edge architecture where people want to live, work and play is central to our ambitions. Schemes such as this are vital for Manchester as it continues to thrive nationally, and on the global stage."

In October, Manchester City Council's cabinet gave its support in advance of the planning application towards West's strategy to develop the area.
