West launches hotel division in Manchester

Residential developer West Properties is planning to open several hotels in Manchester through a new West Hotels division.

West is planning to redevelop the Ramada hotel site on Deansgate and bring hotels to its Origin scheme on Princess Street, as well as sites on Sharp Street and Owen Street.

The developer has permission for a major scheme designed by Ian Simpson Architects on Owen Street featuring five towers from 14 to 49 storeys. The overall project will include 1,094 apartments, 100 serviced apartments, a hotel, 813 parking spaces, offices and shops.

Origin, on the corner of Whitworth and Princess Streets, is also designed by Ian Simpson and will contain 62,000 sq ft of offices, 180 apartments, stores, cafes, restaurants and the hotel.

West is reportedly in talks with US operator Starwood for a hotel at Origin. West has hired Colin Roy from InterContinental Hotels as managing director of the hotel arm.
