Weber Shandwick appointed to Airport City

Airport City Manchester, the 5m sq ft development around Manchester Airport, has appointed public relations agency Weber Shandwick to support media and investor relations in China, ahead of embarking on its first international roadshow in June.

Weber Shandwick will support investor relations, media briefings and profiling for the roadshow, which will visit Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen from 9-13 June this year.

The senior delegation going out to China will be led by Manchester Airport Group's chief executive Charlie Cornish. He will be joined by David Partridge, managing partner of Argent, John Atkins, MAG property director plus representatives from MIDAS, Manchester China Forum and Marketing Manchester. They will be joined in China by Beijing Construction Engineering Group's managing director Mr Xing Yan, who has a 20% share of the joint venture.

The mainland China road show, which will aim to attract Chinese businesses, will highlight what Airport City Manchester has to offer their company. At each city there will be a range of events that will appeal to occupier investors, manufacturers and property agents, all of which will promote the opportunities and support available at the £800m landmark development at Manchester Airport, UK. Further international road shows will follow across key territories including the Middle East and USA.

BCEG was announced as a 20% partner in Airport City Manchester in October 2013 by Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne during a visit to Beijing Airport.

The other joint venture partners are Carillion, also with 20% equity, and Greater Manchester Pension Fund with 10% equity. MAG has the remaining 50% share. Argent is the development manager on the scheme.

Angela Fielding, senior project director at Argent and Airport City development manager, said: "We are looking forward to taking Airport City Manchester out to China to showcase its strong proposition amongst a key audience for the development. We feel having the right PR partners in place will enable us to maximise on the strong media awareness that exists already in China and to take this to the next level through a targeted, insight-led approach."

Airport City will provide 5m sq ft of development, consisting of a mix of office space, hotels, advanced manufacturing, logistics and warehousing.

Weber Shandwick is a global public relations firm with offices in 81 countries.
