Wates wins sports village contract

Cheshire West & Chester Council has appointed Wates Construction to build the £13m Ellesmere Port Sports & Leisure Village.

The project is the 100th to have been procured through the North West Construction Hub.

The new leisure facility will be built at Cheshire Oaks, Ellesmere Port.

Facilities include an eight court sports hall with seating capacity for 1,400 spectators, a 25m swimming pool, gym and dance and fitness studios. The development is co-funded by Sports England.

Designed by Ellis Williams, construction of the 64,500 sq ft building is due to start this November and will reach completion in spring 2015.

The project was awarded to Wates via the NWCH following its appointment to both the medium and high value frameworks in 2010. The framework is designed to reduce procurement periods by 50%, whilst achieving cost savings of 9% on new-build projects.
