Wates wins £37m schools contract

The Education Funding Agency has named Wates Construction as the preferred bidder for a £37m contract to build six new school buildings across Stockport, Warrington, Wigan and Ellesmere Port.

The firm beat Kier to the contract to deliver four primary and two secondary schools under the Priority School Building Programme.

The projects are Abingdon Primary School, St Johns CE Primary School and Werneth School in Stockport, Beamont Collegiate Academy in Warrington, Britannia Bridge Primary School in Wigan, and Christchurch CE Primary School in Ellesmere Port.

More than 3,330 pupils will be taught in new buildings.

The PSBP is rebuilding the 261 schools in most urgent need of repair in England by 2017.
