Wates Construction to extend Bury factory

Bury-based plastic goods manufacturer Thumbs Up has awarded Wates Construction a contract to build a 40,000 sq ft extension to its manufacturing unit at its site on Dumers Lane.

Thumbs Up, founded in 1979, supplies plastic household goods from manufacturing and packaging through to sales and delivery. The firm's product range includes collections of house wares, gardenware, storage ideas and food storage.

Richard McGuinness, of Thumbs Up, said: "The new unit will enable us to manufacture and launch our planned new product lines over the next three years."

John Shannon, Wates' business unit director in the North West, added: "This is an exciting opportunity for us to work with a fast growing company that has an excellent reputation in its field. We were awarded the contract after close collaboration with the client and the client's professional team and look forward to working with them when the construction is underway."

Wates is due to start construction later this month and aims to be complete by September this year.
