Warrington tenders for PFI street lighting project

Warrington Council has published a tender for technical advisory contract, ranging between £200,000 and £300,000, for its street lighting Private Finance Initiative project.

The technical advisor will be required to work under the direction of the council's lighting manager highways assets. The council said a comprehensive description of requirements and responsibilities will be included in the invitation to tender documentation.

In February, it was announced Warrington would benefit from £45.5m of Government funding towards installing improved street lighting.

The funding is part of a total of £620m of Private Finance Initiative funding being spent to enable seven local authorities in England to upgrade existing street lighting.

The Government said better street lighting will help to improve road safety in these areas as well as helping to reduce crime.

The other successful authorities included Durham, Stockton, Essex, Gloucestershire, Hertfordshire, and Kirklees.

Deadline for submitting tenders is 5pm on Tuesday 4 May.
