Volunteers wanted for city clean-up
The Liverpool Commercial District BID is looking for volunteers to take part in a cleaning project in the city centre this Sunday 13 May.
The BID is working with the recently established JCI Liverpool, part of Junior Chamber International, as part of Let's Do It! World, an international campaign taking place this weekend, aimed at encouraging mass clean-ups of cities around the globe.
It involves participants coming together to clean up local areas for the benefit of the community. Let's Do It! World has run in many countries since being set up in Estonia, in 2008. More than two million people around the world have already taken part.
Volunteers in Liverpool will be taking part in this project for the first time. The clean-up will be on 13 May from 1pm to 2pm, starting at Mercury Court and cleaning up several areas close to the city centre, after which the volunteers will meet for coffee and tea. Anybody can take part.
JCI Liverpool is working with the Commercial District BID, and many local businesses are keen to support the project, including Enterprise Liverpool, Hill Dickinson and the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce.
JCI is a global network of young professionals that offers its members opportunities in networking, training and volunteer work.
The Liverpool junior chamber was set up by Kai Graf von Pahlen, a solicitor at Hill Dickinson. Kai said: "Let's Do It! World is a great project to get involved in, and our volunteers in Liverpool are keen to make a positive difference to the community they live in."
Kevin Whittaker, operations manager of the Commercial District Partnership BID, said: "Part of what we do as a BID is take extra effort to ensure the areas in our remit are kept clean and attractive, so we are grateful to JCI Liverpool for organising this event and taking their own time to lend a hand to keep the city looking tidy."
