Volkswagen dealership to open in Oldham

The council’s planning committee is set to sign off proposals to build the 61,000 sq ft dealership, workshop, and MOT centre off Chadderton Way when it meets this week.

Developer and dealership company Inchcape has put forward the plans for the site off Broadway, which is bordered by Burnley Lane, Chadderton Way, and neighbouring residential properties.

Designed by architect SRA Architects, the scheme covers around 61,000 sq ft and features a main showroom and workshop building at the northern end of the site, featuring full-height glazing. A valeting bay is due to built to the south of the workshop.

The showroom will have space around 21 cars, while outdoor parking will provide space for 128 used cars, as well as 324 parking spaces for the workshop and servicing.

The new dealership will replace the existing VW site at Manchester Road in Chadderton.

Signalling support for the scheme ahead of the 5 June committee meeting, planning officers said the scheme could be delivered “without any significant harm to traffic, environmental, and amenity issues” and added it would “represent an appropriate land use on this prominent site which it will bring back into productive use”.
