Volcanic ash disrupts flights

Flight from airports across the country including Liverpool and Manchester were disrupted today due to an ash cloud from a volcanic eruption in Iceland.

Manchester Airport issued a warning saying the National Air Traffic Control Service (Nats) had placed restrictions on flights until 6pm this evening. Passengers should check with their airline before travelling to the airport this morning.

The Met Office warned Nats the ash could damage plane engines. At around 4pm Nats said no flights will be permitted in UK controlled airspace until 07:00 tomorrow morning, Friday 16 April, at the earliest, due to the volcanic ash drifting across the country from Iceland.
