Victoria Park sports stand on site

Warrington Council has started construction on a £4.4m sports facility within the 67-acre Victoria Park.

The contractor on the scheme is Buckingham Group, which was previously appointed by the council to demolish the Warrington Wolves stadium in Wilderspool in 2014.

The works at Victoria Park comprise a 300-seat sports stand that includes viewing areas, changing rooms, WCs, kitchens and community room, alongside a competition-standard floodlit rugby and football pitch, fenced to ensure security. There will also be improvements to existing pitches to enhance water drainage and improve surface quality.

The facility will be available for use by all community clubs and groups. Warrington Wolves will utilise the facility as a match ground for junior and non-Super League games. Latchford Albion will also use the ground.

The Victoria Park project is part of Warrington Means Business, Warrington's framework for growth. The development is being overseen by Warrington & Co, Warrington's partnership for growth.

Construction is due to complete in autumn this year.

Cllr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, community and culture, said: "Warrington Council's vision is to transform Victoria Park into a dedicated sports hub and making it Warrington's key sporting, leisure and community events location for the whole region and a showcase for the quality of life that Warrington enjoys."
