Urban Splash’s first self-build applications unveiled

The first image of the six schemes submitted for planning as part of Urban Splash's Tutti Frutti development competition in Manchester, has been unveiled.

The property developer's first self-build scheme offers 20 canalside building plots in New Islington on which would-be residents are invited to design their own homes with the winners able to buy plots for between £160,000 and £200,000.

However, only six of the 20 houses in the scheme have so far made it to the planning application stage.

If granted permission, work on the plots, which will each be 49 feet in length with widths ranging from 13 to 16 feet, will start on site this summer.

The buildings are restricted to six storeys in height, but entrants are allowed to build their houses from any materials they want to – as long as their designs impress Urban Splash.
