Uniqlo finally confirms at Manchester Arndale
More than a year after the brand was rumoured to be signing up for the former BHS unit on Market Street, Uniqlo has confirmed it has taken a 15-year lease on the space.
The fashion brand has taken the 21,000 sq ft unit in what will be the brand’s 12th UK store and only its fourth outside London.
Place North West first reported Uniqlo was set to take the former BHS store in December last year. Since then, construction works have been ongoing to add a new glazed façade to the unit’s Market Street frontage.
The store is set to open in the first quarter of next year.
Other fashion brands to sign up this year at the Arndale include Ralph Lauren, Monki, and Gap. The shopping centre’s new food and drink offering, Halle Place, has also opened in time for Christmas.
The Arndale Centre is jointly owned by M&G Real Estate and Intu. JLL and Metis are the retained agents.
Kannika Mall, asset manager at M&G Real Estate, said: “The arrival of Uniqlo at Manchester Arndale is a real point of success for the centre, which continues to build its fashion credentials with a wider range of new and exciting brands than ever before.
“It is also brilliant news for shoppers in the north of England who can add Uniqlo to their shopping wishlist. The timing of the new store, just as Uniqlo launches its designer collaboration with Alexander Wang, couldn’t be better.”
