Uni work underpins Wates’ Liverpool move

Wates Construction has opened an office in Liverpool to serve a growing order book of work in the city.

The contactor's new base is at 78 Mount Pleasant in the university district and will house 15 members of staff. Wates previously used site cabins and its Manchester office to handle Liverpool projects.

Wates recent and ongoing work in Liverpool includes the Art and Design Academy for Liverpool John Moores University, the University of Liverpool's Sydney Jones Library, and the North Liverpool Academy. The company is also currently building the new £19.5m Mount Pleasant Campus for the law and film schools and the £13m Central Teaching Laboratory for the University of Liverpool.

John Shannon, Wates business unit director in the North West, said: "The office provides us with a real base to support our growing client base in Liverpool and demonstrates our long-term commitment to the city at a time when it really matters. We know the importance of continually striving to elevate our performance in order to exceed the expectations of our customers; regardless of the economic climate. Wates has a strong balance sheet, a solid reputation and we are here for the long term."
