Two mixed-use residential-led projects in Manchester’s New Cross, including proposals from Beech Design & Build, and architect Willacy Horsewood, have been submitted to planners.
Beech Design & Build has lodged an application for a mixed 15, nine, and seven-storey building which will house 155 apartments, as well as 3,100 sq ft of commercial space at ground floor level.
The private-rented project on the corner of Rochdale Road and Bendix Street also includes an outdoor terrace and a gym. The site is currently used as a surface car park.
Beech, which acts as developer and architect, held a public consultation last month. The professional team also includes Currie & Brown as cost consultant, Layer as landscape architect, and Deloitte as planner.
Subject to planning approval, Beech hopes to start on site in autumn 2018.
Architect Willacy Horsewood has also submitted an application on behalf of client Linson Construction Pension Fund for a six-storey mixed-use project on the corner of Mason Street and Marshall Street.
The site, currently used as a surface car park, formerly housed the Hat & Feathers pub, which has been demolished.
The client plans to build a six-storey building housing an 800 sq ft retail unit and a 40-cover restaurant at ground-floor level, alongside 14 apartments on the floors above.
There will be two two-bed apartments and a single one-bed apartment per floor, as well as two two-bed penthouse apartments on the top floor.
The applications are the latest in a series of proposals for the New Cross area. These include plans for a nine-storey aparthotel, designed by SimpsonHaugh and operated by StayCity.
Manchester City Council’s executive also signed off proposals for public realm improvements across the area on Wednesday.
