Two more hotels mooted for Liverpool

A police and fire station residential conversion, and a Home Bargains store are also expected to receive planning permission next week.

FCH Longman Drive Hotel Velocity Leisure

Developer Velocity Leisure proposes a 150-bedroom hotel on 1.68-acres of land at Longman Drive adjacent to Dobbies Garden Centre.

The 73,000 sq ft hotel would be five storeys and sit on a site currently used as an over-spill car park for the garden centre.

Velocity previously gained approval for a 20,700 sq ft trampoline park in January 2017, but did not proceed with the scheme “due to the competitiveness of the trampoline park”, according to a planning statement drawn up by consultant J10 Planning.

The developer then acquired a long leasehold on the site from Peel L&P, which “allows them to consider alternative longer-term investment options,” including a hotel, Velocity said.

Falconer Chester Hall is the architect behind the proposals.

Atlantic Hotel Liverpool March 2020

A six-storey, 50-bedroom hotel has also been proposed in Liverpool, on the site of the existing two-storey Atlantic Corner Hotel.

The plot is on the corner of Sandhills Lane and Regent Road, adjacent to Huskisson Dock. The applicant is the owner-occupier of the existing hotel, which proposes to demolish the site and build a larger hotel.

The landowner initially submitted an application in 2018 for a 100-bedroom hotel. Following the outcome of two public consultations, the scheme has since been halved in size.

Plan:8 Town Planning is the planner, and the scheme was designed by Fisk & Associates Architects.

Allerton Police Station March 2020

Torus Developments’ application to develop the former Allerton police and fire station on Mather Avenue is also recommended for approval by Liverpool City Council next week.

The site is made up of four vacant buildings: a former police station, former fire station, a garage, and a pair of semi-detached houses that were previously fire service living quarters.

The proposals are split into three main elements. The first is to demolish part of the police station, then convert and extend the building into 40 sheltered accommodation apartments. A ground-floor communal room is also proposed.

The fire station tower, workshops and garage would be demolished, and five townhouses built in their place. The three central houses would be four bedrooms, and the end houses would be three-bedrooms.The two existing houses would be brought back into reuse and refurbished.

In documents submitted to the council, architect for the scheme Halsall Lloyd Partnership, said: “All of the proposals are intended to be sympathetic and respectful to the existing buildings. Where possible, we have strived to retain and enhance as much of the building fabric and appearance as we could.”

Home Bargains Liverpool March 2020

Meanwhile, discount retailer Home Bargains proposes to demolish the derelict Bridge House pub and the operational William Hill shop on Childwall Valley Road, and build a 24,000 sq ft retail unit and warehouse.

An application to demolish the buildings on the 1.91-acre site has also bee submitted.

A design and access statement compiled by planner WPL Consulting states: “The proposed development will deliver a number of significant benefits to the local economy and residents of Belle Vale.

“The development will result in a new multiple retailer, investment in the area, new jobs, and the enhancement of retail choice and qualitative retail offer.”

Liverpool planning committee meets on 10 March.
