Tweaked Tithebarn office proposal approved

Capital & Centric has received consent for a revised application for its £6m Tithebarn office redevelopment in central Liverpool.

The plans for 12 Tithebarn Street were changed following the replacement of the original designer of the scheme, AEW Architects, by SixTwo, which devised the new plan.

The revisions include painting the outside of the building grey, rather than the initial plan to clean the outside and leave its original concrete finish.

Part of the side of the building containing new toilet pods for each floor will now be clad in timber. The stepped top of the building will also be levelled out and a new roof garden created.

The 1970s-built office building has been derelict for five years and was acquired by Capital & Centric in April 2013.

The speculative refurbishment secured £2.4m from the European Regional Development Fund towards the project.

This is Capital & Centric's fifth scheme in Liverpool in the past three years. Other schemes include Speke Business Park and Estuary Commerce Park both in south Liverpool.

The company has also started on site with extensive refurbishment works to the Bunker Building which is part of the Littlewoods complex in Edge Lane.

Louise Pearson, development manager at Capital & Centric, said: "We'll be introducing a new rooftop terrace and will be using distinctive materials throughout the refurbishment in a refreshing and funky way. The building will offer something different to the city centre office market not currently available to the SME market."
