Transport minister pledges better train service for Crewe

The Minister of State for Transport, Andrew Adonis, has announced the rail service operating between Crewe and Derby, the North Staffordshire line, has been designated as a community rail service.

The announcement means East Midlands Trains, the train operating company, will be able to manage the service with more emphasis on meeting local needs, working together with the local community rail partnership.

Commenting on the new proposal for the North Staffordshire line, Lord Adonis said: "It means that local communities can become even more involved in how these services run and ultimately encourage more passengers to use them."
