Tranmere plans to relocate training ground to Woodchurch

Two planning applications have been submitted on behalf of Tranmere Rovers FC to relocate its training ground and build houses on the existing site.

HOW Planning and architects Paddock Johnson Partnership advised on the plans, the first of which seeks to secure a development of up to 90 family homes on the club's existing training ground which is in a mostly residential area in Ingleborough Road, close to its Prenton Park stadium.

The second application promotes the relocation of all training facilities to Woodchurch Leisure Centre on Carr Bridge Road, Woodchurch. The club said the existing Woodchurch Leisure Centre will be refurbished, enhancing the facilities for the local community. In addition to the club's training pitches the application outlines plans for community football and hockey pitches.

Carol Clarke, planner at HOW Planning, said: "The submission of these planning applications marks the first phase of a comprehensive scheme to secure the longevity of Tranmere Rovers' future. The club is keen to see sport play an integral role in the community and the club has consulted extensively with Sport England and numerous footballing bodies along with the Woodchurch community to ensure their aspirations are represented. We look forward to seeing these applications progress and a successful resolution on both."

Mike Paddock of Paddock Johnson Partnership added: "The redevelopment of the training ground for residential development will allow capital investment into Tranmere Rovers and will provide replacement facilities of a much higher standard contributing to more open and accessible football facilities within Wirral as a whole, the new facilities have been designed to allow this to be achieved."

Tranmere Rovers said it had consulted the Tranmere Hall Estate Residents' Association who have shown initial support for the redevelopment of the training ground. The football club's stadium will remain in its current location.
