Torus progresses Newton-le-Willows hospital site

The developer-landlord has lodged an application to transform the former Newton Community Hospital on Bradleigh Road into 39 affordable apartments.

Located on Green Belt land around six kilometres east of St Helens, the four-acre site is bordered by the disused Sankey Canal.

Nine of the proposed apartments would be created within the former hospital building. The hospital closed in 2017, relocating to a larger facility further up Bradleigh Road.

Five of the flats within the retained hospital building would have one bedroom and the remaining four properties would have two bedrooms.

The remaining 30 flats would be housed within a new-build three-storey block on the east side of the site.

Within the new-build block, 19 of the apartments would have one bedroom, while the remaining 11 would have two bedrooms.

All of the apartments are earmarked for affordable tenures.

John McCall Architects designed the project and Barton Willmore is the planning consultant.

They should be concerned about the current influx of traffic. I live on the Parkway Estate, hundreds of new houses being built and the majority of houses have two to three cars. It’s only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt on Alderoot lane – No pavement and the lane was never intended for such volume of traffic
