Paul Burns has been named chair of the affordable homes provider’s board.

Burns, who was previously vice chair, succeeds Graham Burgess in the role. Burgess will stay on with Torus as vice chair.

Burns is an experienced barrister with expertise in social housing, property and human rights law.

“I am privileged to be appointed chair of the Torus Group board, particularly at a time when the group’s core role to support resilient communities is so important,” Burns said.

“I am grateful to Graham for his dedication and passion, which have helped to make Torus the strong and purposeful group it is today, and I look forward to working with Graham and the wider board to ensure we provide the right levels of challenge and support to the executive team.”

Burgess, who had been chair after Helena and Golden Gates Housing Trust merged in 2015. He had stayed on as chair when Liverpool Mutual Homes joined Torus in 2019.

Burgess said was pleased with the work the Torus had done during his time as chairman.

“I am incredibly proud of Torus’ achievements since amalgamation, and particularly how the group has stepped up to support communities through the challenges of Covid-19,” Burgess said.

“We have a clear and distinct strategy for the future to deliver the Torus mission of ‘growing stronger communities’”, he continued. “I cannot think of anyone better than Paul to take the Chair role and I look forward to supporting him moving forward.”
