Titan to expand by 70,000 sq ft
Morley Estates has put forward plans to add another 70,000 sq ft to its site in Kirkby, increasing the size of the warehouse beyond 500,000 sq ft.
The developer bought the site from KME Group for more than £9m in October 2016; the building is a former copper tube production warehouse and covers around 450,000 sq ft.
Under the plans, a series of redundant buildings including a 35,000 sq ft mill, a boiler house, and an office will be demolished to make way for an extension to the rear of the main building, which will remain unchanged.
The extension will add just shy of 70,000 sq ft to the site, meaning Titan will provide around 520,000 sq ft of industrial and employment space.
Knowsley Council’s planning committee is to discuss the proposals next week, with officers recommending a decision should be made by its head of planning, dependent on whether the Health & Safety Executive decides to recommend a call-in to the plans.
The HSE has a bearing on the planning decision as the site sits within distance of at least one site classed as “a major hazard site”. However, planning officers said the HSE’s objection to the scheme was “insufficient to justify a refusal”, given the site’s allocation for industrial use, as well as the fact that similar industrial uses surround the site.
