HOW Planning has secured consent on behalf of Aldi for three new schemes in the North of England. Stores will be built in Burscough in Lancashire, Sharston in Greater Manchester and Todmorden in West Yorkshire.
In Burscough, West Lancashire Council has resolved to grant planning permission to vary and remove conditions at Ringtail Retail Park to accommodate a new store. Construction at Ringtail Retail Park is now complete and the decision by the council removes the condition for a non-food occupier, paving the way for Aldi to trade from the 1,580 sq ft unit at the site; a decision which further enhances the food shopping choice in the local area.
HOW has also secured planning permission for a second Aldi store at Sharston in Greater Manchester. A new store will be built on a brownfield site close to junction 2 of the M56, which will enhance consumer choice within the Sharston and Wythenshawe areas. And a third store will be built on Burnley Road in Todmorden town centre. The site is under-utilised and currently occupied by redundant buildings which will be demolished as part of the new scheme. The new Aldi store has the potential to function as part of the wider town centre given its in-centre location.

Whilst Sharston and Todmorden both revitalise brownfield sites, the decision at Ringtail Retail Park helps to secure the long term future of the scheme, ensuring the largest remaining unit is brought into productive economic use. Each scheme will create local jobs and further enhance consumer choice within the food retail sector in each area.”
Each store will create some 40 full and part time jobs; delivering further indirect jobs through services supporting the new facilities.
Consultants on the Burscough application included Cameron Rose Associates and CBRE, who acted for the landlord. Cameron Rose Associates and the Harris Partnership acted on both the Sharston and Todmorden schemes.
