Thomas Barnes puts down new roots

Bury-based construction company Thomas Barnes has opened a Liverpool office to service a growing order book in the city, taking space in Bruntwood's Plaza in Old Hall Street.

Thomas Barnes is on site at the University of Liverpool refurbishing the Eleanor Rathbone and Randall buildings.

Paul McGarry, regional director of Thomas Barnes, said: "It's an exciting time for Liverpool with £6.7bn being spent on construction projects over the next five years. With our track record in the area and our proven ability to deliver quality projects in the public and private sectors, Barnes is well placed to match the growth that is going to happen in this vibrant city."

Other current North West projects include the new Arts Centre at Bury Girls Grammar School, the Education Centre at the Christie Hospital, the refurbishment of the Ophthalmic Unit at Rochdale Infirmary and the extension of the Kenmore Medical Centre in Wilmslow.

The firm's past work in and around Liverpool includes health contracts at various hospitals and primary care clinics, as well as youth clubs and a sailing school.
