Plans have emerged for a 28-acre “wellbeing resort” on the site of EventCity in Trafford, operated by leisure development giant Therme Group.
Therme builds and operates facilities across the world, including Therme Bucharest, the largest thermal leisure resort in Europe.
A site on Barton Dock Road, between Phoenix Way, Mercury Way and the Bridgewater Canal, is currently home to EventCity, which is set to relocate into the building occupied by Soccerdome. An eight pitch outdoor football facility is also to be built next door.
The news was revealed as part of a leaflet drop to shops and residents around the Trafford Centre.
The scheme is being proposed in partnership with Peel Group, which owns and operates EventCity.
A consultation event is set to take place next week at EventCity, from 2pm-8pm on Thursday 25 July, and from midday to 4pm on Friday 26 July.
According to the leaflet: “Therme Manchester will bring together the tradition of the ancient Roman spa with an indoor tropical paradise. Therme resorts are some of the largest attractions in the world, built and operating at the highest level of quality and sustainability. The concept has been running in Europe for over 20 years, making a long-lasting positive impact on communities.
“Nature and water are at the heart of Therme creating a true oasis in the city, with everything from exciting wave pools and waterslides to relaxing luxury spa experiences.”
