Tesco consent unlocks firm’s relocation

Rochdale Council has approved plans for a new 25,000 sq ft Tesco food store on a two acre site close to Littleborough town centre, following planning and retail advice from Manchester-based HOW Planning.

Acting on behalf of Property Alliance Group and Carlisle Interconnect Technologies, HOW Planning negotiated permission for a scheme which will deliver a new supermarket along with car parking, landscaping and public realm on a site currently occupied by Carlisle's industrial premises.

The foodstore development will, in turn, cross-fund the relocation of Carlisle IT to a larger, more modern facility elsewhere in Rochdale, safeguarding existing highly-skilled manufacturing jobs and enabling the business to achieve its ambitious future growth targets.

Daniel Brown, principal planner at HOW Planning, said: "We are have worked hard to convince the local authority of the merits of our planning case and look forward to seeing this important site being redeveloped. It represents the only real opportunity to expand and enhance the food retail offer of Littleborough so that weekly shopping needs can be met locally. The benefits to the wider economy speak for themselves, with the proposals delivering a significant number of new jobs and facilitating the relocation of an important local manufacturing business."

Saunders acted as architect on the scheme whilst Lexington Communications advised on the public consultation process.
