Britannia Group, the owner of the derelict Tatton Arms pub in Northenden, has submitted an appeal against Manchester City Council’s decision to refuse its redevelopment of the site earlier this year.
The planning inspectorate will now review the planning application and the Council’s decision-making process, before confirming how the appeal will progress.
Britannia Group’s plans would see the redevelopment of the dilapidated pub, vacant since 2007, into nine apartments while restoring its historic exterior. The proposal also includes building 14 houses on the site around the pub, as well as a riverside café.
The planning application was refused by the council, on the grounds of harm to the Green Belt and the impact upon the character of the Northenden Conservation Area.
A spokesperson for Britannia Group said: “We fully appreciate this is an extremely sensitive site. We sought to deliver a viable scheme that rescued the Tatton whilst enhancing and improving this run-down building. The vast majority of the community supported us and we find it difficult to understand how the improvements we proposed could be viewed as anything other than a positive transformation of this part of Northenden.
“The local community gave a clear supportive mandate for our plans and we will continue to explore every avenue to deliver a new future for the Tatton Arms – a future that the people of Northenden can be rightly proud of.”
Timescales for the appeal process are yet to be confirmed.
