Swizzels moves forward with Middlewich warehouse

Tritax Symmetry, the development arm of Tritax Big Box Reit, has submitted a planning application on behalf of Love Hearts manufacturer Swizzels Matlow for a 158,000 sq ft facility at Ma6nitude in Middlewich, Cheshire.

Tritax exchanged contracts with Swizzels in February to bring the new manufacturing base to the site, as part of the 460,000 sq ft first phase of the business park.

The project team includes AEW Architects and Avison Young’s planning team.

David Nuttall, development director at Tritax Symmetry, said: “With the deal now signed, our focus is firmly set on delivering this new premium facility for Swizzels.

“Our plan is to start on site in the third quarter subject to a positive outcome of the planning process. This unit is the first phase of development for Swizzels and we have the ability to bring forward an additional 300,000 sq ft on this plot.”

The wider project team includes RPS, CMS, Shepherd Gilmour and Hannan Associates.

Legat Owen, Savills and B8 Real Estate are joint letting agents for the scheme.

Located off Junction 18 of the M6, Ma6nitude has plots from between three and 53 acres, allowing for the construction of units between 40,000 sq ft and 638,000 sq ft.

Ma6nitude is being brought forward in a joint venture between Tritax and Northern Powerhouse Land, a special purpose vehicle owned by the Nicholson family, formerly directors of Pochin Developments prior to the company’s administration last year. The holding company was not involved in the collapse.
