Student blocks at Bevington Bush approved

Liverpool City Council has granted planning consent to a 350,000 sq ft development of 1,019 student flats, on a derelict site opposite John Moores University’s Byrom Street campus.

The 1,019 bedrooms will be split into 169 studios and 123 cluster apartments, in four blocks ranging between eight and 16-storeys.

The scheme on the Bevington Bush site has been proposed by Bevington Developments, led by director Greg Malouf, an Australian developer. The project has been designed by Falconer Chester Hall.

Work on scheme will commence in late summer so that it can be completed in time for the start of the 2018 academic year.

The blocks will be ranged around central gardens and the scheme’s exterior landscaping has been designed to link with Jamworks, a neighbouring student accommodation scheme to the south, to provide a route between the two developments.

Residents’ amenities include a gym, shop, bar, yoga retreat garden, communal lounges and a private cinema.

Zerum advised on planning, while Planit-IE designed the public realm.

Greg Malouf, managing director of Bevington Developments, said: “The quality of the amenities, design and fit-out are exceptionally high. There will be nothing like this in the UK and it will help attract more overseas students to Liverpool. We’ve seen that parents are willing to pay a premium for higher quality accommodation so we’re going to raise the bar with this project.”

The location is so attractive and appealing as well (not). The fortunate overseas investors who will be sold this enticing dream will be rubbing their hands at the attractive guaranteed return. Well done Liverpool for promoting this sure fire winner and enhancing the city reputation as the place to do business.

Location isn’t in the best area generally importantly is right by the campus. That is the key thing.

The standard of the design looks good. A worthwhile scheme as student blocks go I reckon.

I believe the whole area has many schemes to regenerate it to it’s former life, how successful they will be I don’t know, but at at last an effort is being made to develop an major gateway into the city and not leave it as a forgotten waste land or “Oller” as we used to call them in the old days.

Surely this takes the tally up to c.10.000 units approved this year alone!

Great stuff – more family homes freed up for inhabitants of the city and for when the students graduate

Looks good to me. Byron Street / Scotland Road such an important gateway especially as the north of the city gets more attention with Liverpool Waters as well as Everton / Kirkdale / Anfield / Vauxhall.
