Strawsons plots 1.2m sq ft Cumbria logistics hub

Developer and investor Strawsons Property is bringing forward plans for Harker View 44, a commercial and industrial park on 110 acres off Junction 44 near Carlisle.

The proposal, designed by architect Frank Shaw Associates, would feature a range of industrial units, the largest being 660,000 sq ft.

A 75-bedroom hotel, a pub, a restaurant and up to three drive-through restaurants are also proposed for Harker View, alongside an electric vehicle charging forecourt and a traditional petrol station.

A public consultation on the proposals has launched and Strawsons plans to lodge a planning application with Carlisle City Council in January.

Subject to planning approval, construction of the first phase could start next July and complete in September 2022, according to the developer.

A spokesperson from Strawsons said the project could generate £146m of annual investment for Carlisle, as well as 2,600 jobs.

Aspbury Planning is advising on the planning application.
